All vehicles are covered by Getaround’s roadside assistance. In the event of a breakdown, the renter must contact the 24/7 assistance. Details about the process are provided on the Roadside Assistance page.

If your car was towed during a Getaround trip or as the result of your driver's actions, Getaround may be able to assist in retrieving your vehicle. Getaround provides 24/7 roadside assistance during all active Getaround trips, although there may be additional charges.

If it is determined that your driver was at fault, you will be reimbursed for the full cost of the tow and for any impounding fees, as outlined in our Fee and Commission Schedule. Determinations will be made based on the conditions set out in our Driver policies and procedures and in our street parking policy.

If the vehicle is towed during a rental due to a breakdown:

  • The vehicle can be repaired quickly : the driver will be able to continue his journey with it. The cost will be charged to the vehicle owner unless it can be proven that the renter is responsible due to abnormal vehicle usage.

  • The vehicle can't be repaired quickly : the driver's rental will be ended. If your car has been towed, Getaround will provide you with all the information necessary to retrieve your vehicle from the impound lot. We strongly recommend retrieving your vehicle as quickly as possible to avoid additional impounding fees.

Reparation & towing fees

In case of breakdown, towing & reparation fees will be:

  • At the driver's expense : if the driver used the vehicle incorrectly during the rental (wrong gas, didn't fill the tank ...). If you suspect an incorrect use of the vehicle during the rental, you'll have to find a mechanic who can prove that the driver is responsible for the breakdown. In that case, the driver will have to pay for the repairs and investigation. Please remember to report the claim within 5 days following the incident. If you do not have the mechanic's report yet, you can add it later to your claim.

  • At your expense : if the driver made a normal use of the vehicle and it broke down because of a lack of maintenance.

If the car is towed due to a breakdown that is due to the car simply breaking down, you will be held responsible for the cost of towing the car. If the breakdown is the driver's fault, a $200 management fee will be applied.
