Getting set up on Flex Tolls

Article updated on 03/12/2024

Flex Tolls is just that - flexible! There are different ways you can choose to manage tolls on your cars depending on your market, how often you rent your car on Getaround, and what else you use your car for.

If there are no tolls in your area

If you live in an area where there are no tolls, you don’t have anything else to do. However, keep in mind that drivers may drive your car into areas with tolls. In that case, if you live in an area that is near a city or state where lots of roads are tolled, it could be worth subscribing to a plate subscription with that operator to avoid late payment penalties and other bad surprises.

If there are tolls in your area

We recommend you set up the cars that you list on Getaround with your local authority, in one of two ways.

Transponder

You can obtain a transponder or badge from your local authority. Once you’ve done so, they will provide you with a transponder number, or ID. Go to the “Toll System” section of your Car Page, and input this transponder ID.

This enables us to associate the right car to the right tolls when charging drivers via the Toll Records feature.

Plate subscription

Alternatively, you can sign your car up for a plate-based subscription. This can be a great option in some markets as it enables you to use the Toll Record feature to charge your drivers for tolls without having to put a transponder in your car.

If you sign up for a plate-based subscription with your local authority, go to the Toll System page in the car dashboard and select Plate Subscription. You can then start uploading your toll records to charge your drivers for their toll use.
