Claims and Insurance Coverage for Rideshare

Article updated on 04/10/2024

Getaround & Uber collaborate to ensure owners and drivers are covered during their combined use of the Getaround and Uber platforms.

Claims that occur on a rideshare-enabled Getaround rental will be covered by either Getaround’s insurance or Uber’s insurance, depending on when the incident occurred during a rental period. Below is an outline detailing when Getaround or Uber’s insurance will apply.

When does Getaround Insurance apply?

  • The Uber driver is on a Getaround rental and the Uber app is off
  • The Uber driver is on a Getaround rental and the Uber app is on and awaiting a ride request

When does Uber’s Insurance apply?

  • The Uber driver is on a Getaround rental and accepted a ride/Uber Eats request via the Uber platform and is pending pickup
  • The Uber driver is on a Getaround rental and is performing an active Uber ride/ Uber Eats rental with the Uber platform

Uber’s insurance provides comprehensive collision coverage with a $1,000 deductible. Getaround will reimburse up to $1,000 for comprehensive and collision damage given appropriate documentation. When Uber’s insurance applies, Getaround will cover the loss of use for owners according to Getaround’s loss of use policy.

Reporting a Claim:

All claims occurring relating to a Getaround rental, regardless of use, should first be reported to Getaround. Getaround will report all related claims to Uber to determine the correct usage and application of coverage. image

Determining Coverage:

Once Uber and Getaround have determined the vehicle’s usage at the time of the accident as well as the applicable coverage according to the reported incident, Getaround and Uber will communicate their coverage determination to you.

After coverage determination, Getaround or Uber will coordinate the primary payments and further investigation of your claim.

Submitting a deductible reimbursement and/or loss of use claim in relation to an Uber claim:
