Guide to car protection plans (Illinois only)

Car protection plans are currently only available in Illinois, USA.

You can choose from 3 options to keep you and your car safe during a rental.

The deductible (what you pay if something happens) and the amount Getaround takes are different for each plan. Allowing you to pick what works best for you.

You can change your plan anytime from your car’s page.
The plan will apply from the next rental booked. Any rentals already booked will stay on the previous plan.

All plans come with:

  • Physical damage protection up to $50,000 for each car, less the deductible.

  • Additional liability coverage for owners up to $1 million.

  • Liability insurance for drivers up to the minimum financial requirements of the state where the accident happened.

  • Personal injury and uninsured/underinsured protection for drivers, in states that require this coverage.

Basic plan

$3,000 deductible.

Earn 80% of the rental base rate.

$1 million in liability insurance.

Getaround pays all eligible damage costs above the deductible.

Standard plan

$1,000 deductible.

Earn 70% of the rental base rate.

$1 million in liability insurance.

Getaround pays all eligible damage costs above the deductible.

Premium plan

No deductible.

Earn 60% of the rental base rate.

$1 million in liability insurance.

Getaround pays all eligible damage costs above the deductible.

Deductible

The deductible is the most you’ll pay for any damage covered by your plan.

Rental base rate

The rental base rate is based on the car’s prices per day, the rental length, and discounts for long rentals. The remaining % is our service fee.

Liability insurance

Liability insurance protects you if someone gets hurt or property is damaged.

Eligible damage

Eligible damage is damage that is covered by your protection plan.

Physical damage

Damage to the car via accident, fire, theft, or vandalism.

Personal injury

Injury to drivers and anyone else occupying an insured vehicle.

Uninsured/underinsured protection

Cover for injuries caused by a driver who doesn’t have insurance, or a driver whose insurance doesn’t cover the full cost of an injury claim.
